Sitting in a cafe and I hear a man ask "Id like a bacon and egg roll please, with no salt but ill have BBQ sauce" I sat in amazement. Can this middle age man really be unaware that BBQ sauce contains a hell of a lot of salt and bad salt at that. Which got me thinking that the average person really do not understand salt. The good, the bad and the ugly of it all.
Salt has recieved such a bad wrap over the years and there is a very good reason for that. My clients think I've lost my marbles when I tell them to include good quality salt in there diet. So why would I do that?
There is two types of salt, the good which is hand- harvested sea salt and the bad, which is refined table salt. The reason salt in general has such a bad wrap is the fact that this bad salt has been known to cause high blood pressure and the common treatment for this is a low salt diet, but this information is only based on the refined salt only.
A salt restrictive diet can actually raise or lower your blood pressure not in a good way. It can reduce proper function of organs and contribute to chronic conditions like weakened kidneys, stressed liver and adrenal exhaughstion. Lack of good quality salt in your can also contribute to the valves in your heart tiring due to lack of minerals and trace elements. The good salt contains an abundance of essential macro-nutrients with over 80 trace elements it has the ability to actually lower blood pressure.
What you know I'm not so crazy after all. So key take home is cut out that nasty refined table salt and make sure to include a good quality sea salt in your diet which can be purchased at most health food stores.
