FEW COMMON MYTHS THAT COULD BE SABOTAGING YOUR WEIGHTLOSS EFFORTS..
January 19, 2015
It can be so disappointing when you are doing everything right eating well and exercising and you still can not seem to get rid of the stomach bulge. There may be a few things that are "healthy" that are effecting your results.
- Fruit juices. Fruit juices are healthy for us but it depends on what type of juice you are buying and how much you are consuming. Fruit is a natural sugar and although it has many health benefits it is still a type of sugar which means if you are drinking a litre bottle of juice per day it is to much. You should be consuming more vegetables than fruit in one day. Now to the fruit juices, there are many on the market and what you need to be aware of is that many contain very little real fruit and the rest is made up of refined sugar. The best fruit juice is the one you make yourself or buy from your health shops that juice them right then and there.
- Coconut Water. There are many benefits to drinking coconut water which include replenishing our bodies electrolytes which are excreted when you sweat. Like your fruit juices though there are many products on the market and unfortunately most do not actually contain the essential electrolytes which make coconut water good for us, they are also high in added refined sugar. The best coconut water to buy is the actual coconuts that you have to cut open.
-Muesli and nut bars. What a great idea for a snack, and they are so handy when you are stuck in a pickle with nothing to eat. Unfortunately these little bars can be quite sneaky. They contain some great ingredients but they are very high in sugar. Some boast of natural sugars such as honey or agave nectar and although they are natural you need to look at how much are in them. They are much better than your Snickers bar but be aware of the sugar content.
- Low fat dairy. Low fat dairy was created around the idea that fat makes us fat which in fact sugar is what makes us fat. Fat is an essential macro-nutrient for our health and well being. Next time your in the supermarket grab a skim milk and a full cream milk and I want you to have a look at the label on the back. Compare the sugar content of the two products. What you will find is that the lower in fat a product is the higher in sugar it is, remember fat doesn't make you fat, sugar does.
- Margarine. Originally put out on the market as a healthy alternative to butter based around the same concept as above that butter and fat was causing high cholesterol. Margarine is actually one chemical molecule away from being classified as a plastic, its actually black in colour but is bleached to change it to the yellow its known for. So switch back to your butter.
These are just a few things to think about in your day to day eating choices that can make all the difference in your health and fitness goal.
