"Ive been working so hard all week, when will I see a result?" Unfortunately for us we live in a world where everything is instant from instant messaging to instant coffee we are used to having things and getting gratification instantly. So when things take a little bit of time we assume its not working and just give up.
What I have experienced over the years is clients expectations of results are way to high. Influenced by shows like The Biggest Looser that promote extremely quick weightloss to your unrealistic before and afters on Facebook these days promoting extreme weightloss happening in a matter of weeks.
The thing that everyone needs to consider when being influenced by these types marketing ploys and unrealistic results is how long did these people keep the weight off for? What extreme measures did they have to take to get this result? Are these images photoshoped? Do I want to be on a shake diet for the rest of my life?
In the weightloss race slow progress always wins the race. When you focus on changing your lifestyle instead of instant results that come in the form of pills, shakes, extreme dieting, extreme training or even surgieries you will find that you will lose the weight and keep it off for the rest of your life and thats what we all want really. Isnt it?
Most people will see an amazing transformation in a 12 week period hence why I base my programming around this time frame and why its so common for many other programs and trainers to do the same.
Weeks 1-4 (of consistent training and healthy eating) you will not see much of a change. You may feel less bloated, more energy and maybe your jawline, cheekbones and decolatage will be making an appearance. Don't lose faith here though this is a very common stage for people to get impatient and just give up. Keep going!
Weeks 4-8 others around you will start to make comments. Ask you if you have lost weight or have been working out. You personally though will not be quite sure yet of whether or not you can see much of a change yet when you look in the mirror. This time is vital to push through. This is where I see most people give up. You have invested just enough time and worked hard but the results YOU believe dont equal all your efforts. Keep going though you are almost there at this stage.
Weeks 8-12 this is the time where you will look in the mirror and see your results only if you have been consistent. Your clothes will be getting looser and your girth measurements will be smaller. This is your reward for sticking with it and trusting the process.
Don't give up just before you get what you have been working so hard for. Trust the process and have faith that consistency is the key to success even though success is nowhere to be seen.
