Yep the number one question of all time for a personal trainer. How do I get rid of my stomach fat and muffin top? And let me give you a quick hint here there is not one core exercise that I can recommend you that will give you a flat stomach. In fact if that is all you are doing (ab exercises) in order to get rid of your stomach fat and muffin top then you won't ever achieve that flat and sexy tummy you are dreaming of.
Let me let you in on the three things you MUST do and I recommend to my clients in order to get a toned mid section.
1. EATING CLEAN
3. STRENGTH TRAINING/CORE EXERCISES
Unless you are really one of those genetically gifted people naturally with abs you must include all three. Your levels will be different for everyone depending on your body type but all three need to be included. One will not work without the other. Although 80% of your result will depend on what you are eating. You can not out train a bad diet. In other words doing ab exercises but still eating McDonalds will not get you the result you are aiming for.
When I say "cardio" I don't mean going for a run or jogging, which I don't recommend to my clients anyway unless training for a running event. I'm talking about HIIT, circuits, high intensity strength training, boxing, sports and walking. This is a topic for another blog though.
If I eat less will it get rid of my stomach fat?
Well yes and no. If you don't eat, sure you will feel skinnier but this is not long lasting. What actually happens when you don't eat is you put your body into starvation mode and start running off adrenaline. This is not good for 2 reasons. When your body is in starvation mode your body will actually start to store anything you eat which in the long term messes with your metabolism (responsible for fat burn). When you start to use adrenaline (fight or flight hormone) as your source of energy you start functioning from a state of stress and your cortisol levels raise in your body. Now whenever there is cortisol present in your body, your body will not burn fat and is actually incapable of burning fat. Instead it will actually store more fat and also around your stomach area which is exactly what you are trying to get rid of.
You can easily get rid of stomach fat and muffin top you just have not been shown how nor given the right information. Train smart I say and train for your specific outcome.
