Really though..... Do you know what your kids are really eating? Do you know what is in those pre-made school snacks? Do you know what food they are serving at their school canteen?
Now I'm not a parent so in no way am I having a dig. What I want to do is educate YOU as a parent on what is healthy for yourself so then you can educate your kids on what is healthy for them to eat.
This is how we create long lasting change for generations to come. Are you setting a healthy example for your kids to follow? It all starts with YOU.
I remember as a kid a regular food in my lunch box was Uncle Toby's Roll ups (pictured above). I even remember losing a tooth shoving a whole meter long roll up into my mouth. A soft plastic type texture will do that to you.
If you look at the box pictured above you will see it says "made with real fruit" and this is where the problem lies. Any everyday parent would read that and automatically think this must be healthy it is made with real fruit.
This is where you need to get educated and realise that unfortunately food companies market for profit first and foremost. Not for the health and well being of their customers, generally speaking.
If you look at the ingredients list below you will actually see that a roll up is only made-up of 25% of real fruit puree. Fruit is not even the main ingredient. Maltodextrin (maize or wheat) is the main ingredient.
I always explain it to my clients this way. If a product has a longer shelf life than what it does in its natural state it's not that great for you. Think about how long these roll ups can last in the pantry compared to an apple in it's natural state.
Don't always believe what you read on the front of a box. Always look on the back to the ingredients list. Remember ingredients are listed in order of the highest content in the product down to the lowest.
Get a clue. Look out for your own health rather than relying on what a box tells you, educate yourself and your family.
