Do you ever feel like no matter how much you have a sleep
in on the weekend or have nanna naps that you still feel
really tired and can never seem to catch up on sleep?
Well.... That's because you can't. Sorry to say. You can't
catch up on sleep.
What you can do though is try to go to bed at the right
times to ensure that you get the QUALITY sleep which
is what you are really craving.
The hours between 10pm-6am are THE best hours to
sleep and is when you feel the most rested.
They say every hour of sleep you have before midnight
is worth 2 hours of after midnight sleep. The deepest
and most regenerative sleep occurs between 10pm-2am.
After 2am your sleep is a lot lighter.
We have a natural biological rythym which is based on
our hormone levels which follow sunlight. So this is
why the time you go to sleep matters just as much as
the length of sleep you have.This is why shift workers
don't ever really feel like they can get a good night sleep.
So if you have trouble getting to sleep here are a few
tips you could try. By the way I used to be a huge
insomniac since I was 14 years old and these days
I sleep like a baby by 10pm so I know a thing or two
about changing sleep patterns.
1. To change your sleep pattern you first need to
gradually get up earlier. Naturally the earlier you
get up the earlier you will want to go to bed.
2. Don't eat to close to bed time. So try to eat at least
3 hours before you go to bed to allow your food to
digest properly. If you food is still digesting while you
are trying to go to sleep your body can't switch off.
3. Avoid caffeine anytime after 3pm including green tea.
4. Avoid being on your computer just before you go
5. Sometimes exercising late at night before you go
to bed can get you all wired up. Everyone is different
with this though.
6. Check your magnesium levels.
7. Don't drink too much water before going to bed
